Retreat Center of the Northern Treasure (Jangter) Lineage
Established under the spiritual guidance of His Holiness Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche in 1999, the Drubde Thegchhog Woesal Ling retreat center in Shimla, India, serves as a vital branch of Dorje Drak Monastery, preserving the profound practices of the Northern Treasure (Jangter) lineage within the Nyingma tradition. This rigorous three-and three-month retreat program follows the sacred manuals and teachings of Rigdzin Pema Thinley, the fourth incarnation of Rigdzin Godemchen, ensuring the authentic transmission of Vajrayana Buddhism. Retreatants begin with preliminary practices (Ngöndro) of the Northern Treasure lineage, followed by the Three Types of Guru Sadhana (Ladrup Namsum/ Drupkor Namsum) Outer, Inner and Secret, which form the core of their spiritual training. They then engage in Vajra Kilaya Sadhana as principal deity. After that They spend week for training in Phowa technique. The purpose of Phowa practice is to train the mind to direct consciousness to exit the body through the crown chakra at the moment of death and long-life practices to sustain their spiritual vitality. The retreat emphasizes Kyerim (generation stage) and Dzogrim (completion stage) meditation, culminating in the direct realization of Dzogchen (Great Perfection) the pinnacle of Nyingma teachings. During the retreat there is also additional practice of Dzogchen Gongpa Zangthal after accumulation of certain number of Mantra recitation.
The retreat center, equipped with five meditation chambers, accommodates five retreatants per batch, each group guided by Druppon Lama Thupten Yeshe, the current meditation instructor. Who had Completed his meditation Practice for 14 years inside the same Retreat Center Drubde Thegchhog Woesal Ling. Presently, the sixth batch of practitioners is immersed in this transformative retreat, upholding the center’s legacy of producing accomplished Vajrayana practitioners. Through the visionary efforts of His Holiness Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche, Drubde Thegchhog Woesal Ling continues to be a beacon of spiritual discipline and wisdom, nurturing the sacred traditions of the Northern Treasure lineage for future generations.
