The 6th Rigdzin Chenpo Kham Sum Zil Non
Also known as Dodrak Kyabgon Rigzin Kunzang Gyurmed Lhundrup Dorje, he was the sixth incarnation of the great treasure revealer Rigzin Godem and the third throne holder of Thupten Dorje Drak, the mother monastery of the Nyingma tradition.
The sixth incarnation of Dodrak Rigzin Chenpo, Kham Sum Zil Non, was born in 1781 (Iron Ox year of the 13th Rabjung cycle) into a royal lineage likened to the Sala tree, in a place called Sertok near the kingdom of Chakla in Dartse Do in Tibet.
The Chakla king and his entourage properly arranged for his enthronement on the golden throne of Dorje Drak. He studied with many spiritual teachers including the master of accomplishment Pema Sheynyen and the great scholar of Chakla, Pema Thekchok, perfecting his practice of study, contemplation, and meditation.
It is said that he received pure visions, prophecies, and revealed new spiritual treasures. As stated in the Religious History by Guru Tashi: “These days, the supreme incarnation, the Precious One, remains firmly seated on the throne, teaching the dharma, maintaining his spiritual practice, revealing profound new treasures, and performing many wondrous deeds for the glory of the doctrine and beings. This is excellent.”
His direct disciples were Chuzang Namkha Longyang and the incarnation of Pema Sheynyen, Jigme Pawo. Although he displayed marvelous activities in the three spheres of work, he did not live very long, passed away at the age of thirty-five in 1816 (Fire Mouse year). According to his hagiography, at the time of his death an umbrella of rainbow light was seen above his body and a pleasant smell wafted through the area.
